WALK THIS
WAY
I love walking in fresh, deep snow. The brown-ness of winter looks covered over
with purity. Everything is white, clean,
& sparkling, like the world has been freshly laundered.
I was walking with my husband the other day &
thinking about footsteps. I found it was
easier walking when I moved behind him & walked in his footsteps. I didn’t have to plow my way through the deep
stuff; I could just fit my footsteps within his bigger ones.
The next time we went out, the snow had become hard
& frozen; I tried walking on the path we had made previously, but the steps
were hard to walk in. My feet kept
slipping on the hard edges. So, once
again I moved behind my husband, who was making a fresh path with his
boots. And, once again, it was much
easier to walk in his footsteps.
Does all of this give you to think about some spiritual
applications? It did for me. If I carefully fit my steps into the
footprints of Jesus, I will not lose my way.
The way may be hard at times, but I won’t fall over a cliff. Plowing my own way can be hard. If I am walking in His footsteps, that means
I am behind Him where I belong, not running out ahead of Him. I am going where He has already been, which
means safety & security.
There are plenty of verses in God’s Word about
walking. One of my favorites is Isaiah
30:21. “Whether you turn to the right or
to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
It sounds like I am surrounded by Jesus!
He’s ahead of me and behind me.
Deuteronomy 10:12 says, “And now, O Israel, what does
the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways,
to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul.”
I think I’ll go for a walk now.
